Had wanted a dog.

So we got Jemima, a little white terrier, from a rescue place.

And...

And I think my sister lost interest, and then it just sort of became this dog.

And my mum never wanted a pet, but she did it for us.

So she was sort of left with it.

And then later on, I got really close to Jemima.

And I know any child will tell you the thrill of a dog's weight on your bed, especially to a child.

I don't know, it's something special.

Well, it's funny.

It was just writing that book sort of made me think, oh, oh, oh, and sort of spotting those stepping stones back through my life that, yeah, they have.

And, yeah, and obviously it's got a bit out of hand lately, but, yeah, they've been good to me.

I was aware you could be teased for that.

Or you could boast about that.

It was a difference.

It sort of set you apart.

But I didn't feel I was a figure of tragedy in any way.

After that, I stopped.

They realised that boarding wasn't for me.

So I went to a school called Royal Russell on Shirley Hills outside Croydon.
