So so the final main chapter of of Learning from My Daughter is entitled Forever Small The Strange Case of Ashley X, a severely cognitively disabled child whose parents chose to subject her to invasive surgical procedures to ensure that she stayed a certain size and a certain stage of particularly sexual development throughout her life.

So as to make it easier for them to care for her.

In the chapter you argue strongly against the parents' decision on the grounds that the bodily integrity of a disabled child, disabled person should not be compromised.

And if I can, I want to link that to the meditation that follows that you include as the final piece of the book, which is also about embodiment.

It's about your daughter's body as a window into her soul, and you're not shy about using the word soul.

You argue that, quote, even many feminists have missed the full extent of how we know the other through their body.

And you go on, it's through my daughter's bodily limitations and her mental incapacities not

Despite them that I experience my daughter as a person, and in more mystified terms as a soul.

In fact what I see in her by means of her body is a beautiful soul.

Sessha shows us how completely we can be what our bodies show us to be.

And you conclude the chapter as follows I I'm quoting for this 'cause I I I like it so much.

There is no one else I've ever met who makes me utter soul, so much as this person whose self so fully appears to be her body.

I wonder if you could say something about your realization of that paradox?
