Hi Terry, come on over.

That's correct.

I'm Mary Darker.

I'm the activities coordinator here in Craddock House.

And this is Mary?

Yes, Terry, we're here at our proposed new herb garden.

We're just in the middle of making it now.

We've collaborated with our chef here in the kitchen and he's going to advise us on what particular herbs to grow that he would use for his kitchen and that we can use to produce for the kitchen use.

So we're looking at putting in some sage, some parsley, some thyme for stuffing and a wide array of the older type flowers and herbs that the residents would be used to growing.

Well, it is really, yeah.

It's something that our residents are very interested in.

But we're working in conjunction with Nursing Home Ireland, who every year have a Nursing Home Ireland week, which is in August.

And this year, their team is connected with nature.

So we're looking at different aspects around the nursing home where we can help our residents to connect with nature going forward and what's good for the nursing home, what projects we can take on,

For example, we're taking on a project doing a biodiversity study on our local lakes here in Nace, just off the road from us, something that we're looking forward to doing.

We're within easy walking distance to the lakes and we're going to work with the Nace Biodiversity Group and see what we can come up with and we'll have it recorded for future residents.

Oh, Terry, I have to say, you know, nature is something that's very much to the fore in our residents' mind.

You know, a lot of our residents will tell us stories about how things were cured many years ago with nature, tinctures that they would have used, flowers that they would have remembered in their gardens.

And we've tried to use those flowers in the gardens for the likes of cowslips and primroses and flowers that would have meant something to them.

So, yeah, nature would be very, very important and it's something that they'd be passionate about.
