I love the rituals.
And I must say, even in the past week, I would never have passed a church on the Camino without going in and just saying a prayer because there's always somebody to say a prayer for or to light a candle for.
And so I would consider myself, well, I'm a huge, in every aspect of my life, I'm a huge traditionalist.
So I love... Really?
Oh, yeah.
Yes, absolutely.
I love traditions.
I love everything, all of the traditions and the heritage that we have in our DNA as Irish people.
And I think we should be very proud of our Irishness.
So you think culturally that Catholicism is part of our tradition as well, that you can divorce it from a lot of other things?
people who were hunter-gatherers, who were settlers, who were hugely into community.
And I think all of those qualities go into us, including compassion.
And like anywhere you go in the world, Brendan, if there are people in need, you will find Irish people as NGOs or just making a difference.
It used to be priests and nuns.
Sadly, there are fewer of them now, but there are lots of volunteers who go out and do that.
And I do feel that the kind of the grounding we got in Catholicism or Anglicism, depending on which it was, Protestantism, that those values are very important.
I regret that in a lot of circumstances, when you hear about awful things that happen in this country and in others, that really the values that were taught to us
have not been replaced by anything for a lot of people in a secular society.
I regret that.
And it's not their fault.
