The not knowing, I suppose, was one of the more frightening things.
Because you've got the thing of, you're in a job and you don't know what they're going to do.
I mean, they kept saying serious consequences, but they didn't give us any more indication than that.
So I suppose this is all going through your head, like there's a recession on, I'm not going to get a job, I'm going to go home, I'm going to be ill.
It's all going through your head for that couple of seconds that that woman was in the queue.
I wasn't changing my mind anyway that I wasn't going to back down.
I said I'm going to continue to buy Cut The Goods.
And they said, OK, you're suspended, indefinitely suspended.
They didn't tell me how long or indicate how long it was going to be for or what was going to happen.
Well, because the store we worked in had three entrances.
So there's the main entrance, which is on Henry Street, which is the main road.
And then there's another side entrance, which is not as big, but it was fairly busy as well.
And then at the back, there was a delivery entrance.
Well, the first day or so, I mean, nobody asked us because they didn't see us.
But when people did start to ask us, we had started on the picket line to start to educate ourselves and started to learn what was happening over in South Africa.
So the more we learned, the more determined we became that we weren't going to handle South African goods.
We couldn't handle South African goods.
in support of the people, the black people of South Africa.
So I suppose the more we learned, the more we were able to have conversations with people about what was happening and why we shouldn't be buying it.
Because people put up the argument, oh, you know, you're going to hurt the black people of South Africa if you boycott their goods.
