So, my logic for this is, a few years earlier, yeah, absolutely.
But this is 2002.
Saab has just come off its great 2001, where the secret to its success is picking Nick Heidfeld when his stock was at a low, but you knew there was massive talent in there from what he'd done in Formula 3000.
And picking Kimi Räikkönen basically out of school and chucking two kids in the car and going, way!
And just having a brilliant, brilliant flat-out season with them.
You know, Felipe Massa at the time...
didn't feel to me like a great pick to take that Reichen and see because I just didn't believe in Massa as a kind of polished talent and his first season was all over the place.
But to me, by that time, you know what you need to know about Jos Verstappen in F1.
He had some lovely moments with Arrows in the little spell he spent there before this.
And he did some amazing things with SimTech many years earlier.
But you know he's not going to be someone who's going to really drive your team forward in the same way that those two kids just had for Sauber.
So if that, I would have been...
just completely unmoved or had no emotions positive or negative by Verstappen and ending up there would have been like a oh I thought Sauber had stopped doing that and was signing exciting people now
I can't believe I'm going to do this in a podcast where I've already basically slated John Lacey and Jos Verstappen, who are both pretty good.
