So basically, Iran is saying go with our permission or don't go at all.
Well, I mean it's interesting because you know, as I mentioned
It's not just economic pressure that's biting on the US side.
There's also a huge amount of economic pressure pushing on the Iranian side.
So both sides are facing a diplomatic impasse over the Strait of War moves and other issues.
And both sides are feeling substantial economic pressure to try to negotiate some sort of deal, and yet they can't.
So we're not really talking about a paradigm shift here, despite the fact that the
US gas prices are going up and we're seeing the approach of these midterm elections.
Everybody that I'm talking to in the region, from the Israelis to the Americans, they all seem to act as though nothing major is gonna happen until these elections are over.
So if anything, it just looks like more of nothing can be done until there's some sort of either leadership change or a renewed mandate for leadership in Israel.
in the US, it's all really adding a lot of volatility to a situation that was enormously volatile to begin with.
Well, I don't really know.
I mean, we haven't really heard that much in terms of details on those sanctions.
And most of the real thrust of what was announced, that economic D-Day that came out with so much fanfare, was actually the real big part of it was aimed at sort of the secondary markets, those countries that were continuing to do business with Iran in defiance of these US sanctions.
So if we see anything at all, it's going to be mostly.
in the trade that Iran does with its few existing trade partners, most important of all being China.
And that was one of the reasons why when we heard about this economic D-Day, the big absent part was real punishment for China, which, with their oil purchases, are essentially propping up what's left of the Iranian economy.
Uh and it didn't sound as though, from the very brief remarks and the very sort of sketchy program that was laid out,
by Scott Bessant, uh, that there was going to be any real punishment for Chinese entities or firms that do business with Iran.
They were only a couple listed among dozens.
