You know, there's always a price for everything.

The Midnight Library was the most fun book for me to write.

It most fit my brain because it's a very ADHD book and I'm very ADHD and it's lots of books in one because she's literally in a library and she's picking the different lives off the shelf that she can live.

So it was kind of like having my cake and eating it.

Like in one sense, it's almost like a short story collection because you've literally got different worlds and different characters.

And so I never got bored.

It was like writing like 25 novels in one.

My absolute favorite chapter to write.

um in the midnight library was also my editor's least favorite chapter which is it's the one where Nora like it's just a montage of all the different potential lives yeah Nora could have like she's a life where she's in Cirque du Soleil there's a life where she's I love that chapter yeah well you possibly like it more than it originally was written because it was so long because I was just there

I was doing about 10,000 lives.

I was having such fun just imagining all the different lives.

So it was so fast.

But my editor made sure it was narrowed down to a more normal chapter size.

But yeah, I felt very free writing The Midnight Library.

And I think like, because...

often with a book, I like to put a little bit of philosophy in there, a little bit of stuff to make the reader think.

And then you have a story.

And often it swings between story and philosophy.

But because of the concept of The Midnight Library, it was so intertwined with it that I didn't have to switch.

Like, just talking about Nora and her choices was the philosophy, but it was also the story.
