EV owners should be paying their fair share to maintain the roads.
Yeah, my preference would be just when it comes to the road maintenance revenue that we that we just do a per vehicle fee because a mileage tax is also regressive like a gas tax.
Yeah, I had to drive.
I had to go about two hours to get to a really good high school from my little town.
And my parents drove an hour and a half the other direction to get to their job.
So I just I think a flat fee.
Now, we do have a fee.
We have a flat fee for EVs.
But when you look at what's actually paid, it is set way too low.
Our EV owners are paying on the order of $100 a year.
Our working class families driving a gas powered vehicle are contributing over $300.
per year.
So I would just right-size that.
But look, overall, let me answer your bigger question on taxation.
Yeah, the average California tax bill.
The reality is it's high.
We've also locked in a lot of expenditures and commitments.
We have pension liabilities.
We have a lot of infrastructure to maintain.
My goal right now is, and as governor, my goal would be explicitly not to raise or lower.
