The whole point of this little scene is that actually one thing that happens is that Taylor accidentally references something at that tree lighting ceremony that he's like, wait, you were there?

I mean, everyone knows about it.

So she's showing that she's already having issues living the double life.

And the pressure of living a double life is something that will grow and grow and become more and more difficult for her in a different movie that would have been better.
