Now, the best version of the Nuggets defense still isn't very good, and that's a problem.
But I do think that a lot of this is about energy maintenance across the course of 82 games.
They knew they could put up 140 last night.
They knew that their offense was good enough.
And they go into a lot of games this way because they're right.
This is the best offense I think I've ever seen.
And if that's true...
It's okay to rely on it.
It's not preferable.
You'd rather they be this balanced team that's able to do both, that drops 140 and holds them to 100 and wins by 40.
But that's not who they are.
And so they will cut corners throughout the course of the regular season.
Where I've kind of gotten to is I'm fine with the defensive energy and effort level as long as they win the game.
Like as long as you find a way to get there, I'm fine with it because I know in the playoffs and in big game situations, their effort and execution level is so much higher.
Like Nicola's defense and the big games versus all the, all the rest is night and day.
It is a massive drop off.
Like if you're grading it on a 10 point scale in terms of effort and execution, he's at like a nine in the games that are big time Houston, San Antonio, okay.
See, and he's at like a four or a three this season.
when it's the Wizards, the Mavericks...
a lot of these teams and he just isn't going to expend that energy in a lot of these games.
