Basically, those few years between, I guess it would have been 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, the Vancouver Canucks, by being such a pain in the ass for the NHL head office and its schedule maker…
We're talking Gillis and Gilman making specific separate trips to New York City asking for an audience to browbeat NHL schedule makers about the distances traveled and the lunacy that prevailed with Vancouver Canucks road schedules back then.
One of the things that has been mostly solved is time zone jumping.
One of the things that the Canucks really objected to back then is, oh, you send us out to play Pittsburgh on the first game of a six-game road trip.
Then we go back to Minnesota into central time to play the Wild.
Then we skip ahead and play another Eastern Conference team.
Now we're back in the central playing like a Dallas or something before finishing up the trip.
It was the time zone jumping back and forth.
The idea was go on out east.
play a handful of those Eastern Seaboard teams, and then if you need a stopover in St.
Louis or Minnesota, Chicago on the way back, it is far more sane to do it that way than to be jumping between the different time zones.
That has mostly been rectified by the NHL.
All that work that the Canucks under the Gillis regime and really following the lead of our guest here today, Pat Byrne,
Has been drilled in to the National Hockey League and its schedule.
