Patrick continues, league sources have told PostMedia that Canucks ownership have said they would like to reduce player payroll by up to $20 million, and it bears noting that they are already down $12 million
from the end of last season.
The Canucks have moved out $12 million from last year, meaning in an ideal world for ownership, they will rid themselves of another $8 million before the season begins.
If they were to get rid of $8 million in salary, they would be just over $78 million on the books with the salary cap floor at 76.9%.
So just, I mean... Yeah, the other thing we should point out here is there's a difference between cap hit and actual money in hand for some of these players.
Yeah.
We discussed it with Jonathan Marcheseau last week in the Nashville Predators, whom they are trying to move.
He's a $5.5 million cap hit for three more years, which would translate to about $16.5 million.
But he's actually just making $10 million in...
$10.65 million in actual money over the duration of that contract.
So there you go, a pretty substantial difference between cap in and actual money out.
It sounds like the Canucks would be in the market for that profile of player.
The math is almost perfect.
And I did hear yesterday that there is more moving and shaking behind the scene, including potentially a senior management restructuring on the business side of Canucks Sports and Entertainment.
