And what I realized is that the better thing that I could do is bring this lantern illumination approach to the guest rather than a spotlight on me.
And the reason that works is because if I can illuminate the guest in what they're talking about, that's actually going to benefit me.
Because, like I mentioned earlier, the audience
Is going to realize, hey, this guy's asking good questions.
I feel something from this interview.
I don't have to be listening to what Matt says, but I know that he's going to make me hear something that I hadn't heard before.
He's going to make the guest go somewhere they haven't gone before.
And I'm always after that emotional reaction in a conversation rather than just the same patent information that they can.
Get anywhere.
So a lot of the lantern concept is going to come back to me in a positive light.
So if I'm the one that wants to be seen, I just have to make a better product.
How do I make a better product?
I illuminate the guest that comes on.
Then people will keep coming back to my show.
It sounds counterintuitive, but it's really not.
It's all about making sure that the product that you're delivering is the best possible product.
And people get pretty bored when all you're doing is talking about yourself over and over and over.
If you can keep things interesting and police the conversation in a way that keeps bringing it back to the North Star, as I call it, the point that you want people to take away from the interview, if you can tie everybody back in.
into that, it becomes a much different style of conversation.
