Like how should we think about that?
Because I definitely hear this from a lot of people, you know.
I have U XYZ, you know, I'm an objectivist, I like Ayn Rand.
And I but I don't want to mention it to any of my colleagues at work 'cause I'm going to get fired if I do.
And a lot of people, you know, sort of subjectively report that over time this is like a stifling feeling.
Like this is like it kinda sucks to like not be able to actually say what you think about anything for fear of like reprisal of this kind.
Um so should that not be thought of as you know infringing on somebody's freedom?
Right.
And often I I I think in a lot of these cases of self censoring, as you suggested, the fear is maybe a bit unrealistic and actually there wouldn't be the reprisals that they imagined there would be if they said what they thought.
So we've been in the general vicinity of firing people, shaming people.
for you know views that they take.
Uh it seems like this is the kind of thing that most people who complain about cancel culture are up in arms about.
What is well, I guess we should maybe take these two things separately, but like what is cancelling, I guess would be one question.
Another question would be like
What if anything is cancel culture?
So yeah, how should we think about cancelling?
And organized boycotts are a traditional part of political protests uh of that culture in America.
