Claire, you're right that this is something that is in the ether and people are talking about it.

But I think people should take a step back and think about the reaction that we need to have to all of this.

An horrific event happened in Belfast at the start of this week.

I, as a representative, have been dealing with

the aftermath of that which has been effectively race riots and what were kind of attempted pogroms on the streets of Belfast.

I had to move some of my constituents to safety just a couple of nights ago.

So I have been dealing with the consequences of the reaction to all this.

So I don't take any of this lightly.

But it is also true to say that the existence of the Common Travel Area

is a public good and has been sacrosanct for people from all political sides for a very long time.

It was something that was agreed pretty much unanimously, would continue through the Brexit process.

The debate was about how we move goods across the island of Ireland and between the islands of Britain and Ireland.

So to talk now about simply instituting a whole series of border checks now,

And fixed infrastructure, which sounds to be what we talked about before, I think isn't a runner.

Now, we can get on the conversation about better information sharing and better processes.

I think that is a legitimate conversation to have.

And I don't think that is something that anybody should dismiss because there clearly is

There clearly is a jurisdiction.

There are two jurisdictions on the island.

Obviously, in the future, I would rather there's only one jurisdiction on the island of Ireland.
