I get it that carbohydrates are valuable and we've been fed, no pun intended, a lot of mistruths and half-truths about carbohydrates and their place in
muscle-centric diet.
So why don't we, that's a fantastic place to start the episode, Dr. Lyon.
Let's debunk low-carb myths.
Because low-carb diets have been positioned as a silver bullet for everything from weight loss to metabolic syndrome, but carbs are not the enemy.
Am I right?
Is that gluconeogenesis?
Is that what you're describing?
I'm going to take a guess that it's in the hundreds.
I've not.
And I think part of the reason has to do with the fact that carbohydrates are relatively easy to consume, whereas protein takes more work.
It's more expensive.
Protein tends to be more pricey.
Fair.
It probably varies according to body size and more specifically muscle mass, right?
Like a small under-muscled lady might effectively dispose of a much lower dose bolus of glucose as compared to a 220 pound bodybuilding male.
Yeah, and I think another way to think about your skeletal muscle is sponges for glucose, essentially.
And so if you are metabolically unwell, defined as having one or more of these characteristics of metabolic syndrome, you've essentially become glucose intolerant.
So by adopting a low-carbohydrate diet, you're essentially like...
I mean, people say that it it'll cause them to require less medication potentially.
