Kendrick is an artist.
He's not an entertainer, he's an artist.
And he holds hip hop in the position where it should be, which is high art.
He takes it seriously and he does not bend for anybody when it comes to that.
And I think people got confused when in the midst of this rap battle, he decided to give people, basically give them what they wanted, a bop.
something they could nod their heads to and shake it in the club and do it with not like us which was really a throwaway song for him just to show during the battle that yeah i can do deep meaningful triple double you know double triple quadruple entendre um lyricism but i can also give you a bop just like my opponent can and it still kills and it goes what five one two three four five
um so yeah people got it twisted and they thought that that's who he is that's not who he is that's just something he can do and they thought that that was going to be his super bowl statement that's not going to be that man's statement and um he came out and for those who don't understand rap that's fine turn the volume down on the on the performance and watch it again because kendrick is also a master of visual performance and the choreography was amazing
The visuals are telling the story.
There's no way that you can't come away understanding this is a black man displaying a black experience, and it is not necessarily a positive one.
We have a lot of improvement to make.
The struggle is real.
