And I'm wondering if you could say a bit more about which groups of people are most disadvantaged when these sorts of administrative burdens increase.
For the next couple questions, I'm going to play a little bit of devil's advocate here.
You mentioned, you know, a core of your argument was that these benefits were helping pay for tax cuts for the wealthy.
However, we had some people note that there were also tax cuts geared toward the middle class in the one big beautiful bill and that those tax cuts for the wealthy were mostly an extension of what was already in place.
How would you respond to those claims?
OK, shifting gears a little bit.
You know, one of the changes is that the states are now paying for more of the administration of these benefits, as well as a portion of the benefits themselves.
Is there any economic logic to this?
What are the pros and cons of that approach of having states pay part of something that used to be covered by the federal government?
Okay, now I want to pan back and talk about the bigger picture.
What do you expect to be some of the longer-term economic costs and human costs of these cuts?
Yeah.
If kids are coming to school hungry or they're not making it to school, they're not learning how to read.
They're constantly concerned about where their next meal is.
It sets in motion a whole series of consequences that I don't think we've grappled with as a country.
And I agree with that as well.
I want the record to show.
OK, so I guess on that note, what do you think can be done here?
How can we as individuals, communities, politically engaged citizens either push back against some of these policies, better inform ourselves about them or mitigate their fallout?
Thank you to our audience for your questions and especially for sharing your stories this week.
