And from there, the second topic we do is the role of money in a good life.
How much money do you need?
What should you do with your money?
How much time should you spend trying to earn money?
Okay.
And then we move on up from there.
So we do politics, money.
We do moral responsibilities.
Basically, what do you need to apologize to people for?
How do you know if you've screwed up versus something bad just happened to you?
We do work in the good life.
And then we go away for spring break, and then things get super existential.
So I ask the students if they're going to practice any religion when they grow up and what it is to even have a religion.
We talk about the role of suffering in the good life, the fact that no matter how well you are doing, inevitably you're going to suffer.
But even worse, the people that you love are going to suffer.
And how are you going to make sense of that?
And how are you going to deal with the fact that there are certain kinds of horrible things that happen to us in life that we have no control over?
And then, of course, Manoush, right before I send them home for summer break, I make them write essays about the fact that they are going to die.
They're going to die actually, you know, not that far in the future in the great scheme of things.
And that everybody that they've loved and ever known is also going to die and that we're so finite.
