So their messaging, as AOC and others point out, is mixed up here.
Because they can't take the clean line that actually a lot of the public want.
They want that populist message.
They lean towards Trump, a lot of swing voters, because even though he's a fraud and a con man and a grifter and a convicted criminal, he at least pretends.
He pretends to be anti the establishment.
He pretends he's going to drain the swamp.
He pretends he's going to be anti-war.
Democrats don't even pretend.
And that is a fundamental problem.
If you're campaigning with Mark Cuban and Liz Cheney instead of with Sean Fain or Lina Khan from the Federal Trade Commission, that sends a message to whose side you're on.
So I do think they need to be doing a lot more of that, but more than just the economic platform.
Look, I think Bernie and all these folks are right about the economic platform.
That's where my politics are.
But it's not enough.
The key line in that AOC interview that you just played is we have to be brawlers, right?
People want fighters.
It's not about whether you're left or right, right?
I happen to be on the left.
But I would support a Democrat who is a center-right Democrat if he had some fight in him, right?
For me, the fight is much more important than anything.
