It was a case of, like, really being so frustrated that people couldn't see beyond the band.
And now, you know...
decades later, I get it, you know, nothing will ever surpass the Spice Girls.
But as a young person, you're like, I'm more than Sporty Spice, you know, and obviously the years have gone on to prove that, you know, because I've done lots of other things as all of my bandmates have.
But I think, yeah, as a young person, it was just, it was hard because there's almost an element as well of like, of being apologetic, right?
Because I love music.
And bands are hard.
You know, they're hard to sustain the workload, the relationships.
And especially for women, you know, we all wanted to become mothers.
We all wanted families.
And that real priorities change.
So I wanted to continue making music.
And that obviously meant going off on my own.
And I love being a solo artist.
I love being a Spice Girl, but I also love being a solo artist.
So yeah, it's hard to go, well, look, this is a new thing I want to do.
And as a Spice Girl, when you've been fortunate to have that kind of success, is that everybody compares everything you ever do to that.
And you can't do anything quietly.
You know, like when I first started DJing,
I was like, can you imagine my first DJ gig?
