Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Listener. Kickpot acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the land in which we're recording this podcast. The Yulakat Wulan clan of the Boon Wurrung who are part of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to our elders, past and present, and extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Welcome to the Three Bs from KickPod, where we talk to people we admire about how they'd like to better themselves, who they want to belong to, and the person they want to become, so we can better understand the way they live their lives and the values that guide them.
Chapter 2: What insights does Melanie C share about her early days with The Spice Girls?
One, two, three, four, five.
Melanie C, can I just say, I feel like especially 10-year-old Steph who is jumping on her bed at home singing Wannabe would be beside herself to know that this was in her future. Thank you so much for joining us.
Oh, it's an absolute pleasure.
We, yeah, we feel very, very honoured to be able to chat to you today. And we're so excited, especially to have you on for a 3BZEP, which is, it's new for us. And it's been a really nice way for us to be able to connect with our guests and also our listeners to, yeah, get to know them and what their life is like now and what they're aiming for. So really keen to get into that.
But we also know that a lot of our listeners are will be very much similar to us in that they were Spice Girl fans. They were Melanie C. You know, they've sung all your songs at the top of their lungs. And so I think if we can start with some throwback quick questions, that would be really awesome. I'm so here for this. Okay, great. Okay, great.
First of all, I think we want to point out the fits. I mean, very quintessential 90s. Obviously, you all had your own little personas, so they're all a little bit different. But, you know, there was the butterfly clips and the high-waisted trackies, obviously, that you rocked.
And it was just, I feel like now we're seeing it kind of come back and there's a lot of that 90s style and fashion that is so cool and effortless. But was there any fits that you look back at that you're like, no, that It was tragic. I can't believe I ever wore that.
Well, you know, the 90s were the one. The noughties, not so much. I think I love vintage sporty, you know, the proper, the trackies, the little sports tops. But I think when we got into the noughties and I was trying to evolve a little bit, yeah, it was, fashion was questionable at that time. So there was definitely some things I was a bit like, yeah, yeah, just stay in your trackie.
I mean, I've come back to the trackie. Here we are in 2026 and I really embrace the original look. Do you have any of your original pieces? I do, you know, I wish I had more, but I did keep some and my mum has a great collection in her loft as well. So I need to go and raid it when I get a minute. Oh my God, that's phenomenal.

Chapter 3: How did Melanie C's persona as Sporty Spice influence her career?
And as a Spice Girl, when you've been fortunate to have that kind of success, is that everybody compares everything you ever do to that. And you can't do anything quietly. You know, like when I first started DJing, I was like, can you imagine my first DJ gig? I was petrified. I'd only DJed in my living room, right?
And then I was going out in front of the world, really, even though it's like a small venue and you can't quietly like kind of earn your stripes. You've got to go out there under like, you know, everybody looking at you. So, yeah, so it's tough. I think as a young person, as you get older, you get a little bit more philosophical about the whole thing and give less fucks.
I love that. I was going to ask you what helped you get through that, but is that one of the biggest things is that? You just getting older. And care less about what people think.
Do you know what I think for me as well? It's like my passion is music and performing. And that's what gets me through. And there's been tough times, you know, but if I'm up on that stage and I'm singing one of my songs, one of the Spice Girls songs, and you get such a beautiful reaction from an audience who that music means so much to, it's like, you know, I can't do anything else.
This brings me so much joy. So, yeah, so those moments have got me through the tough times.
We've got a couple more quick questions before we get into the three Bs. Sorry, I'm not very good at quick questions because I ramble. When we say quick. Why did I just even say quick questions? No, we don't do quick questions. We don't really do quick questions either. That's us. Yeah. I just, I feel like I knew, this is a new format for us. And we always go deep from the start.
And as I was asking you that question, I was like, I have just ruined this format because I have asked you a deep question, but I can't help it. And I'm actually going to change the question that we had down because what we had down was if you could relive one moment again that you had with the Spice Girls, what it would be.
But I think as you sat down and I'm hearing you speak about the fact that that was such a, you know, defining part of your career, but also you have done, it's not the whole thing and you have done so much more. I can imagine that would be quite a frustrating question to hear because... It's not, you know.
It's not? But you can tell us. I'd love to reword it.

Chapter 4: What challenges did Melanie face in reinventing herself after The Spice Girls?
Same, same, same. And every time someone sees my car, I say, I bought this. Oh, yeah.
I hold my hands up. You know, it's an electric car. I thought I was doing the right thing. And she's a sexy beast. She looks gorgeous, but I effing hate that car. Yeah, they're a piece of shit. But anyway, yeah, I have that. And I love it. He's just got right in there. He's got right into the core of my shame.
Yeah.
That makes me feel so much better because every time I over-explain my car choice and I'm glad you do too.
All right, last one, and this is probably even more random than that one. Do you have another question for her? Sockies. Let me see what your sockies are. You want to know what her socks look like today? Yes.
Okay, I'll let you know. Thanks, bud. My eye! you know what I nearly put on some Spice Girls socks really damn they needed a wash well I always wear a sports sock obviously but I've got my aloe socks on today I've got my new grey Adidas trackie on so I thought I'd pair that with a little grey aloe sports sock So socks are very important. Actually, isn't it funny, right? Kids are amazing.
He's got right to the heart of the things that really matter to me, that really move me. And socks are such a big part of my life. I'm like, does everyone have this right? Do we have a drawer full of socks? And half of them we never wear and we hate them, but we just can't part with them.
Can't part with them. I'm exactly the same. In case we ever need them. I had no idea what questions he had asked and that is just...
See, I think this should be a new segment on the podcast. Harvey's question. Because kids ask the best things. They do. They filter and they just, yeah. Well, thank you. You're very welcome. Thank you.

Chapter 5: What themes are explored in Melanie C's new album 'Sweat'?
You are very welcome. And I hope my answers are good. And I have to say, this is one I enjoyed thinking about. Other things, sometimes not so much.
Thank you. We are very honoured. Now, the three Bs, the reason that we do them and have started doing them in our interviews is I feel like it really enables us in the audience to kind of get to know where you're at in your life right now and what your goals are and what your focuses are and your values and I suppose how you want to live your life. And we wanted to start with... betterment.
Now it's interesting you spoke earlier about the fact that we are in this world where we feel like we always have to get better and better and focus on growth and it can really be overwhelming and it's kind of this juxtaposition with also the fact that self-development when it's kind of applied healthily can be really good for us.
So I wanted to ask you in terms of betterment, what is one thing you are really focusing in on at the moment within that area? Yeah,
Yeah, I've been working on something for a long time and I've got really good at it. But every now and again, it slips. And I want to get better at my internal dialogue. When I was young, I would really berate myself. And I think a lot of young people and a lot of women especially do it. And it's so negative. You know, it just has this negative effect.
And even, you know, we know the power of the mind is incredible. So I really try to be kind to myself when speaking to myself. You know, I think we're all, oh, you know, you're stupid, you're this, you're that, whatever. And yeah, I want to continue to be more positive with my internal thoughts.
It is. It's a real muscle, isn't it, that you really have to work on. It's a shame that we're so wired to... I suppose wired not from birth. I know that for sure from having a young kid with the amount of kind of like innocence and confidence that they have.
But then what happens with the world and the pressures and comparison and everything, these insecurities do come and some of them do stay with us forever. So I think... That's amazing that you've, you know, obviously got the self-awareness of some of these things that come up. And I think it's an incredible reminder that we can all, you know, be kinder to ourselves.
Yeah, absolutely. And I think, you know, it's harder now than ever. My daughter's 17. So she's not really known the world without social media. And I feel very lucky, myself and the Spice Girls, we talk about this all the time. Like, imagine, yeah. If there was social media in the 90s when we did what we did, it would have been a very different experience.

Chapter 6: How does Melanie C define self-betterment in her life?
I've gone back. Like, how old is this show I'm watching? I think it's about 20 years old. I'm currently watching a show called Friday Night Lights.
I'm watching it on Apple TV and it's just brilliant it's just a wonderful piece of television it's about American football it's about all these school kids and it's set in Dallas so it's yeah it's really interesting and it's naughty so like the fashions like as you imagine but yeah it's quite nostalgic kind of looking back but it's a brilliant piece of television
Amazing. Well, thank you for the recommendation. And speaking of things that we can do in our time that bring us joy, attending your show definitely for all of our listeners will be one of those things. Can you tell us about the show, when it's coming, how do we get tickets, when are they available?
Okay. Well, yeah, that's all a very good question. So I'm going to be back in Australia at the end of the year. Now you're testing my memory. I'm playing Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. And yeah, I'm not quite sure how you get tickets just yet, but I'm sure if you keep an eye on my socials, then everything will be revealed.
But what's so exciting about this tour is I don't think I've ever toured Australia. As a solo artist. I've played The Odd Show here in Sydney. And it's been a long time. I've DJed here. I've done DJ tours, which have been amazing. But to be back with my band, with this record. And of course, this album's so much fun to do live.
But I've got a great back catalogue and things always get a bit spicy. So there's definitely going to be lots to look forward to. I turn to you.
Of course. Okay, great. Be rude not to. That is one of the best songs of all time. That song, the emotions when I listened to that. On the way, that was what I listened to. Between that and sweat. On the way in. I just felt, I don't know, I had a few tears in my car. I was like, this is bringing me back to a moment in my life that was really special and just makes me feel really, really good.
So we, Steph and I. We will be there. Team, also, we will make sure we let you know when Mel's tickets go live because we don't want to miss out on them. So when they go live, hopefully your team will maybe tell us, Mel. We'll also, we follow your socials very well. We'll see.
I think, I don't know when this is going to be aired, but I don't think the tour announcement is until the 13th.
