So I think the ratio of customer-facing time to non-customer-facing time is what you can look at. And if your SEs are spending more time behind the scenes than you'd like, and I don't think there's any threshold for that, that's when a support organization might make sense, because they can offload some of that non-customer-facing time.

Yes. So one thing I think you should consider is that it's a really interesting role to hire people into because you're not just hiring someone who can do the work, right? Because you're hiring adjacent to an SE or a pre-sales organization, You're looking for people who have a wider view when you're recruiting.

The reason I point that out is because we found that that team of sales support engineers, of SE support, was a great feeder team for the SE organization. You're hiring pre-SEs to do the less fun work. but to have exposure to the SEs who are doing the fun work. Get in front of the customers, go eat dinner at fancy places and stay in exotic locations.

And if you're lucky, but it gives them exposure to that role. And so you're basically priming a bunch of relatively young people toward the SE role. And once they see it, it's hard when you see how SEs live and how awesome their lives are and how fun the job is.

It's hard not to want to be an SE, unless you're more of an introvert, in which case the other place we saw a lot of value was feeder team for product marketing and product management. So again, these weren't just, we weren't just hiring coders out of school, though some of them were more technically inclined, some of them were brilliant coders, so I don't want to take that away from them.

But we found that it was a great place to start them in the company and see their performance. We could see where their strengths were because there was a variety of work. And then usually after two years or three years in that role, they had some pretty good opportunities around the business because they had made a name for themselves in pre-sales. It's highly visible.

Ja.

in adjacent to the role and to see if they would be a good fit. And they'll tell you, because once they've been in that role a year or two, they know what they want to do next. They have a pretty good idea, because they've been doing, you know, they've been doing configuration, they've been doing slides sometimes, they've been doing strategy discussions with SEs.
