As the only person who worked for President Barack Obama, as the person who created the My Brother's Keeper program, I'm saying to the Black and Latino community, I'm giving you an alternative choice.
Rank me first, not Andrew Cuomo, so we actually have someone that's fighting for us.
Affordability is hands down the number one issue in this race.
Everywhere across the city, it's coming up.
whether if you are a black voter in Co-op City or Watchdale Village or Central Brooklyn, if you're a white voter in Upper West Side, you're Latino, Corona, you're South Asian, East Asian, doesn't matter.
Everywhere.
And fundamentally, what is happening right now is that people want to hear how are you going to fix this problem?
They understand it's a problem, so what are you going to do?
And what I'm laying out
are very specific ways to address affordability.
First, we need to have local median income because area median income makes zero sense.
Area median income is how your housing other expenses are determined, but it includes Westchester, Rockland and Suffolk County.
That it makes any sense at all.
We need to end using credit scores when it comes to housing applications and increase the income limits on these housing applications.
And be very intentional that when we build, you know, 600,000 units, which we said around affordable housing, that will allow us to actually have a chance here to truly have affordability.
Because there's so many people that are working in New York with the living areas because they can't afford it.
It's the other thing we said about guaranteed income for child care.
And I think fundamentally the reason why there's been a rise for me, there's been a rise around Zoran, there's a rise around Brad, rise around Adrian, because Adrian's also talking about guaranteed income, is that we're actually talking about addressing affordability and how affordability is tied to the top issue of public safety, which is why I keep saying there has to be a thousand mental health professionals instead of the cops.
