Drivers struck and killed just over 6,700 people last year, a drop of 7 percent from the year before, according to a report from the Governor's Highway Safety Association.
California alone accounted for more than half of the drop.
2025 marked the third straight year that the number of pedestrian fatalities has declined since peaking in 2022.
but last year's number is still 10% higher than the total from 2016.
The report also looked at why and when pedestrians are killed and found some familiar patterns.
