WSJ Your Money Briefing · What Hiring Managers Want to See From Job Candidates · 11 Oct 2021

I don't know if we're really having trouble hiring at the moment.
It is a candidate's market.
There is lots of opportunity out there.
And what we're seeing is, and I think all companies are seeing, is that candidates' expectations are changing.
What's important for them today is
is really around purpose, being connected to a mission greater than their own, and really aligning the work to people's individual passions and the social impact that they could have.
And we think we're well positioned to deliver on all of those.
My general view on a lot of topics, particularly this one, is have the honest conversation with the recruiter or with the hiring manager, because you don't know if you don't ask.
And there are some jobs, our branch jobs, that you physically can't do remote.
You have to be in one of our branches every day.
But there are some jobs that possibly could be.
But you don't know if you don't ask and have that conversation with us, because the last thing that we would want to do is not be aligned around expectations.
And it's our job to make sure we're giving you a realistic job preview of what life here could
I personally would not put it on a resume.
I don't think it's necessary.
But what I would advise your audience around, and you're seeing this in the press, is that companies are putting different types of requirements in place around various health and safety matters when it comes to being in the office and safety.
So I would just make sure you do understand as you're engaging with employers and talking about specific jobs, what the health and safety protocols are for those companies to make sure, A, you can qualify and B, they're in line with where you are on the matter to make sure you don't get surprised later on in the interview process or around a requirement that you may or may not be able to or want to meet.
