Target sales declined in the holiday quarter, though sales of food and beverages, beauty and toys rose, and it's predicting sales will improve this year.

Sales already picked up in February.

Its new CEO, Michael Fidelke, who just took over February 1st, says Target is improving merchandising, the shopping experience and technology.

The company also has laid off corporate workers and some regional staff to help improve staffing at stores.
