In broad strokes, I would say number one is just the knowledge.
I mean, we had amazing professors, amazing faculty and staff.
I took on as many finance courses as I could.
And so I would definitely say number one is knowledge.
Number two is language, both an actual language.
I studied Spanish while I was in INSEAD and the kind of the business language and etiquette that you might expect in the business world if you're sitting with a COO of a bank or with a large investor.
um and third is probably most important is just the friends uh that i've made in that intense one year from all over the world our study group has you know a phd from china a consultant from austria an engineer from brazil and australia you know india belgium the uk the yukon and canada so yeah certainly knowledge language and friends
Right after my MBA, I joined a family-owned private equity firm in New York City that dealt mainly with developing real estate and owning these operating businesses.
And there is absolutely no way I could have gotten in and succeeded in doing what I did without that knowledge.
Because our business was to analyze financial reports, to speak, negotiate, come to terms with bankers, buy companies, speak with owners.
And so that was absolutely fundamental.
And I say I did my undergrad in real life, my MBA in INSEAD, and this was definitely my PhD, you know, working for these guys.
Absolutely fantastic.
And I worked there for three years and then I set out to build my own venture.
And now, you know, together with a partner, own and manage real estate in the Midwest.
We have some just over a thousand residential units in the Chicago area.
To get back to the point, I would say that the knowledge, the financial knowledge and the financial understanding of how money works together with the ability to speak to the point and be confident around other business people, other professionals, other bankers or investors together with the ability to make friends in a short period of time.
You know, I think...
Not a lot of people talk about how valuable an MBA is in getting you to be a more pleasant, communicative, friendly person.
And that plays a gigantic role in business, especially when you own the business.
