You know, it reminds me of this discourse on the right that you hear a lot about whether the right should be more muscular in its use of government power. matched

And they're all debates that have gone on for decades on the American right. matched

But one of the memes that's come out of that, which I think is manifestly true, is that if you have two parties fighting against each other and one of them wants to wield power and one of them doesn't want to wield power, matched

guess which party is going to win? matched

It's always going to be the party that's actually doing something that has activity, that has a vision, that has a coalition and has momentum. matched

And so when you look at this scene out of New York where the Islamic community is saying, look, we're going to reshape the standards and the norms. matched

We're going to matched

violate the law and will effectively change the law to accommodate us. matched

What are you guys going to do about it? matched

Well, I don't see a lot of Christians banding together saying, actually, we're going to double park during lunchtime daily mass. matched

Or I don't see a broader coalition of Christians and Jews in New York, which is basically what New York has been for a very, very long time, matched

saying, actually, we're going to have X, Y, and Z series of standards, and that's going to be enshrined in our law. matched

Because to Matt, to your point, there's no such thing as a separation of church and state, never a perfect one anyway, because the legislators have to have recourse to morality, which means they have to have recourse to religion, and they're governing particular people who have certain rituals that go along with their religion, like being closed on Sundays for having blue laws or something like that. matched

So there's never any way to do that. matched

And we bury our heads in the sand and say, no, we're going to have a totally neutral, secular kind of law. matched

And the Muslims come in and they say, yeah, we're not interested in that. matched
