Remember, retail sales calculated on a dollar volume basis.
If you take gasoline out of the headline number, the headline would be a three-tenths gain instead of a five-tenths gain.
We do see some declines here.
Auto sales and parts down four tenths of a percent.
Furniture and home furnishing stores down two percent.
Clothing stores down one and a half percent and department stores down three point two percent.
Now, much of that department store money probably went into the Internet shopping craze.
Non-store retailers up by one point one percent.

He's not going to be able to come in and cut rates, even if he could convince the other 18 members of the Open Market Committee, which I'm fairly certain he can't.
The markets wouldn't let him, not with inflation like this continuing to rise.
