It was a combination of being blocked politically in the Senate and then being blocked by...
internal kind of swamp forces inside the government.
And they were all marshaled together.
And it did not stop, as you just pointed out, after I did walk through the door and was confirmed by the Senate.
You know, my agency and I personally were sued endlessly in the District of Columbia, a great place for Democrats to sue Republicans.
And it went on, even beyond the end of the Trump administration into the Biden administration, because as you often point out, they are relentless.
You know, a kind of victory is not enough.
They really want to burn their enemies to the ground.
It was, I think it was May or June of 2020.
So three years and three months later.
Of 2020.
Yeah, I mean, by the time I was serving, they were already into the next presidential campaign.
And I tried very hard to get the Voice of America and the other agencies under the USAGM banner to at least portray that presidential campaign fairly, and that was a battle.
And not an easy, not a battle I think I won, but I tried.
Well, before I came there, this was like a really sleepy agency.
I mean, it spun off from the USIA and the Clinton administration, and it had really been run essentially by Democrats through the intervening, you know, 20 plus years.
And, you know, I assured my wife and family that my own nomination and service would be uncontroversial.
And like many of my opinions, that turned out to be wrong.
I think what it comes down to, Steve, is not me personally, but I think that they recognize that this is a huge media enterprise.
