First of all, I'm glad to hear that the legislature is willing to talk about affordable housing outside the context of raiding Sadowski.

Maybe perhaps their first step prior to legislating what we can do should have been to refund all the money they took and diverted and then leverage that for bonding so that we could build affordable housing in partnerships that were meaningful in our community.

Second, I find it curious that the survey of the communities appears to say that there has not been a lot of interest from the development community to take advantage of Live Local.

And there may be a number of factors.

One could be the relative uncertainty of what happens each legislative session and how predictable.

It could also be the recognition that simply jamming in a 30-story building outside a residential area

uh... because it happened to be industrial one point uh... just doesn't work for a community and they don't want that backlash either and it doesn't necessarily work uh... third i i would uh... it's adopt uh... mayor harten's points i think they're so well taken and i fear that that's where this legislation really is headed rather than an ec collaborative and cooperative way and there is no way for us is our own cities to quote will take care of our own

because those who live here may work elsewhere, those who work elsewhere live here.

So I really, I think that this is problematic.

I think the work that we do as a planning council should be to continue to monitor when this is invoked so we can understand where and when and what are the characteristics and be able to report back to the legislature that their efforts of inspiring either have failed miserably or have caused other problems that were unintended.

and then they can just simply write a check to refund the Sadowski.
