We walked for about four hours.

It was a cloudy day, which was nice to not have the sun beating down on us for a change.

We were pretty quiet.

After the fun of last night, getting back to the reality of the island was kind of depressing.

It was like for that one night I got to experience what camp was really all about.

That thing that makes people go back year after year, and why they cherish camp memories for the rest of their lives.

I know it sounds totally sappy, but...

I finally really got it.

Camp is magical because a kid like Blaine, who gets ignored at home and beat up by his brothers, can come to camp and be a teen.

Because a nerd like Zach can come to camp and be revered and looked up to for his knowledge.

Because even a kid like me, painfully awkward and shy, can come to camp and instantly have awesome friends.

And maybe even a girlfriend.

I understood all of it last night, and I loved every moment and wanted more.

But like a dream, when I woke up, it was gone.

And all that was left was just a hazy memory of that feeling.

And with every step we took down the Trans-Canalina Trail, it became harder and harder to hang on to.
