It was a useful initiative.
However, the contracting with Manage My Health around that and the steps taken to ensure that Manage My Health would be able to keep that Health New Zealand information safe weren't good enough this time around.
We all have a right to decide which health portal holds our personal information.
One of the things we're going to be looking at in phase two of our inquiry is whether New Zealanders actually knew that they had a record with Manage My Health, whether they were being kept informed about what material was going on, all those sorts of things.
But at the end of the day, things like patient health portals are going to become an increasingly important part of how we do health
in New Zealand.
And the big picture is that we need to ensure that New Zealanders can have trust and confidence in how that works.
