But this is an expensive thing to do.
Loan parents are not that responsive to financial incentives.
And when you do increase tax credits for those in work, there's a lot of dead weight, if you like, a lot of money wasted on loan parents who would have worked anyway.
And so in the final few years of the last government, it tried to tighten up the conditions on receiving benefit by making those loan parents with older children look for work as a condition of receiving benefit.
That really doesn't cost the government anything.
And it will get some loan parents into work.
