Meanwhile, borrowing costs for houses are getting pricier as well, with the average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage now sitting at 7.24%.

Federal government data shows that prices for the month of August are 3.4% higher than they were a year ago, and that cascading series of events has, over the course of this year, put a ton of pressure on the Federal Reserve to do.
Do something about inflation.

Elizabeth, okay, so rates are going up by how much?
Right, right, that makes sense.
So you also mentioned that this is the first rate hike we've seen since twenty twenty three.
It's also the first major interest rate hike move that we've seen from Kevin Walsh, who is the new chairman of the Federal Reserve.
His predecessor, Jerome Powell, he didn't have a great relationship with President Trump, Elizabeth, in large part because of interest rates.
What have we heard from the president about all this?

We're hearing Kevin Warsh say this is aimed at taming inflation.
