The guy's name is really cringy for those youngins.
they really hated open source for obvious reasons right the tidal wave memo regarding internet explorer we're doing some great history here by the way microsoft was terrified of netscape and in the open source model was just they were significantly paranoid it's kind of ironic because they're a huge contributor to open source now and azure runs tons and tons and tons of linux they ship basically a linux kernel right in wsl2 on windows now
And I would say they're one of the better, you know, vendors that isn't quote unquote a Linux company, but is in the community, right?
So it's just odd how that played out and how their contributions have escalated.
And I would even say their attitude and community participation has been really good.

And yeah, that's really great, right?

stuff is uh is running on azure but they've also open sourced a ton of their postgres extensions and he explains this better this is so for a little bit of context here all these this rising b thing is so totally new and i didn't have a chance to get hands-on with it so i'm definitely asking him questions from a position of ignorance but it's interesting i mean they're they're also a strong supporter of postgres right and linux and
It's just great to see how that's changed and how awesome of a positive contributor to the community Microsoft has become.
Weird that Anthropic is taking a crap on open source considering, I mean, if you look at the team there, these should be the guys that are theoretically on our side, right?
but i i don't know i'm sure there's all kinds of backdoor things going on you know and it might be a little bit of look at what the incentives are and that's where you'll land in terms of well open source models are probably a threat if you've raised you know billions and billions and billions of vc money and somehow i have to make that good but i just looking at the history of the computing industry
I mean, you know, you can go on certain subreddits and the Windows enthusiasts are like, lol, desktop Linux.
Fair enough.
But look at servers.
Look at every appliance that has, you know, a smart chip in your house.
It's all Linux.
It's all open source.
Some of it's BSD even for the more devily oriented users.
I think just historically, the mobile phones, the core OSs, right?
