What happened?
This package would split the Homeland Security funding from a package of five other major spending bills.
The Senate's plan is to pass a two-week funding package for Homeland Security at current spending level until February 13th.
President Trump is signaling support, saying he's working hard with Congress to ensure they are able to fully fund the government.
The Senate's working to get agreement to fast track the change, but it's not clear if they can lock in the deal tonight.
The House would also have to approve the package.
But after the longest government shutdown in U.S.
history last fall, it sounds like nobody really wants to shut it down again.
