Here's Utah Senator Mike Lee Saturday night in a video on X. The very same Secret Service that just saved President Trump's life, and thank heaven above that he's safe, has been defunded along with the rest of the Department of Homeland Security for more than two months.

My Democrat colleagues in the Senate, it's time to end this.

Let's end the Homeland Security shutdown now, please.

I don't know those numbers, but what I do believe is that there are at least tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands by the time all the research is done.

I believe is doing some heavy lifting here of people who have registered to vote in elections in one state or another.

And regardless of how many of those have voted in the past.

We have to remember that there are 30 million plus noncitizens in this country, 10 or 15 million of whom came into this country illegally between 2021 and 2024 alone.

So regardless of how many may have voted in the past, what you have to look for is how many have registered and how many could register if we don't close this gap.

Update for the evening.

Look, I'm guardedly very optimistic.

We've got a real shot at this.

Our next strategy has got to just involve delaying as long as possible the moment where we cast a cloture vote.

The longer we can leave the debate hanging without cloture,

The more we have the chance to force Democrats to articulate their basis for opposing this, we can debate, vote on, perhaps pass amendments along the way.

But we want to avoid any short hop to a cloture vote.

If we run immediately to that, knowing that we've got a 10 vote cloture deficit, we're going to lose and lose quickly.

We can't have that happen.

We want to keep this hanging for as long as possible without a cloture vote.

We shouldn't fall for cloture.

until we think we can get to 60.
