So the senators in particular are stunned.

I mean if you go into the cloakroom, you'll see a couple of boxes of whiskey that have been shipped in because they're very morose and they're very upset that the White House doesn't appear to give a damn about how any of them are doing.

And the great example was the housing bill.

They finally got a big housing's a huge issue here, particularly in the more urban and suburban areas.

Nobody can afford housing.

So there was actually rare today a big bipartisan bill to do something about it.

And the Republicans could hardly wait to get out and campaign on it, to have something other than Donald Trump to talk about.

And then Trump wouldn't sign the thing.

He eventually let it pass without veto.

So, yeah, there's real fear in the Republican machinery.

Is this guy so bananas that he's just given up caring about the team and it's all a one-way street?

So they're all like hostages now.

Trump has a lot of power over their base votes.

He doesn't have enough power for anybody in a real competitive place to win.

He can get you 45% in a concession speech.

So you want him to behave

ways that lets you get that extra five percent to get to fifty.

And so far he hasn't been doing it.

The tariffs are a problem, the war is a problem, price of gasoline is a problem, the perception that he can't run the economy.
