We know that.

He got injured in early May at Wrigley Field.

It was a tough break.

It was a break that the Reds could not really afford.

They turned to Graham Ashcraft.

He got hurt.

We got news on Wednesday that perhaps he is starting to play catch, which is a good development.

He's still a ways away from bullpen, throwing bullpens, throwing sides.

So you lost Graham Ashcraft.

You've lost Tony Santion.

Those are your three best power arms at the back end of the bullpen.

And right now, the Reds have been caught short.

I think that the Reds have to seriously address how they build the bullpen going forward.

I thought going into this season that the Reds were going to have enough arms, that Pagan, at 34 years of age, would still have enough left in the tank, and he might have had he stayed healthy.

I think Graham Ashcraft would have been a terrific option in the 7th and 8th innings, along with Tony Santeon.

And Terry Francona and Matt Tracy and Derek Johnson, I'm sure all felt the same about their bullpen and the prospects.

But the bullpen got hurt and a lot of arms in the bullpen went down and the Reds got caught short.

And that's where you needed the starting pitching to really step forward.

And they haven't.

And I think that's one of the frustrations of watching this team day in and day out in 2026.
