it didn't work my my presenter said look that's just not enough time i want to be able to delve a little bit deeper into my topic i want to be able to give people more information than what the 20 minutes is affording me so i said all right well let's try this whichever speakers would like to do this you can have 20 minutes for your session and that's it if you just want 20 minutes there you go or you can do 20 minutes plus
A deeper dive and the deeper dive would be a 45 minute session.
So in total, you'd have just a little over an hour for your session.
The 20 minute would be in the morning.
The deeper dives would be in the afternoon.
And that was okay.
But I found that as more presenters wanted to do deeper dives, I had to counter program them.
and counter-programming them resulted in exactly what you described.
People completely unsure of where they wanted to be and whose talk they wanted to listen to.
Part of the reason the digital pass came about was because I wanted to then record everything so that folks who sat in on one deeper dive could catch the other deeper dive later.
And then there are logistical and other issues with doing that because now the one deeper dive is in a small room off to the side and the other deeper dive is in the main conference center room.
And now I need double the equipment to do all the recordings.
Ugh, such a mess.
So ultimately I ended up going back to the single track and that has itself evolved throughout the years.
But the 90 minute sessions are something that I was able to bring about because we moved
to the new conference center at the Holiday Inn.
And because we had the bigger rooms and because the conference center, and again, one of the lessons to learn is find good partners when it comes to conference centers because they do a great job working with me to make sure that MaxDoc comes off the way I want it to come off.
And by moving there, that afforded me the opportunity to now offer 90-minute sessions
what i then called workshops and have evolved to just calling 90-minute sessions along with the 45-minute sessions so yeah single track definitely the way to go for smaller conferences loved it i think so much of this comes back to community and growth you know individually in groups i mean you're talking about the hallway track this is genuinely how jeff and i
