I'd listen. But Mike, what's up? I'm so happy to be here. I can't wait to send this to the Glue Guys listeners because... As for anyone, I had a podcast for 10 years about the Brooklyn Nets. A lot of lows, very, very few highs. A lot of lows. We covered vaccine mandates and anti-Semitic posting and all this other stuff.
My buddy Brian and I, who I co-host, my best friend in the world, we just looked at each other. virtually and we were just like, we can't do this anymore. We can't subject... He had a kid and I now have a third child. And I was like, I can't... You guys know this. I can't imagine how much basketball you guys watch. You just do the math. You're like, I can't do it.
You can't do the pod unless if you're like... locked in right you gotta be in it you gotta know you have your noah clowny takes ready to go on a weekly basis and so i'm but i'm happy to do this because i have like a like a squirrel in the winter i have a chestnut full of of takes about the nets so this is this is it this is i'm so glad to be here it's great
It's such a... I don't know if it's on Stockholm Syndrome, but you are trapped in this internal battle between really loving Jordy Fernandez, the coaching, the moxie of the squad, winning more games than they should, even though they've only won, what is it, 25 games this year? Yeah. And being very locked in on that front and then also being pretty furious every time they win a game.
We've been there. We've been there. Yeah. It's a bad feeling. It's a bad way to live. It's not fun. But this is the situation they put themselves in willingly. They made that trade to get rid of the Suns draft picks to get their own draft picks back.
kind of, I, I mean this lightly, but it's kind of in the worst case scenario where the sons have had the worst possible out of like the hundred thousand simulations. This is the worst son's year possible pretty much.
Um, and the nets having their pick, even though they're the six best odds, this is like the best season they could have possibly have had, even as they're trying to like actively tank and do all the things that they're doing. Um, But again, it's been enjoyable. This team has those early Kenny Atkinson, Coach Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie, Joe Harris type vibes.
And it is way more fun to watch this team than it was the end of the Katie Kyrie era because that was just so negative and the expectations were so high. This team, the expectations are... like lower than the basement, right? It's like Minecraft. You're digging. I don't know if you guys put my six year old now plays Minecraft. I know Minecraft. Oh yeah. I know Minecraft.
You're digging into like the molten lava level. Yeah. That's how low the, the nets expectations were. Um, And it's kind of fun when Zaire Williams pops off or Keon Johnson or Noah Clowney makes one out of eight threes. And so it's exciting. But it's also the worst. And it's good and it's bad. And it's like, God, it's such a mind mess.
Yeah. There is a clear, there's like a lot of bad math happening. What you described is not bad math. That was good math. There's bad math happening within the Nets fan base. Like people are very angry that they're not the fifth spot in the odds over the Sixers, that they are the sixth. you guys know this, the lottery odds difference between five and six is minuscule.
It's 1.5% to get the top pick advantage to the Sixers in the fifth spot. It's basically 5% chance better to be in the top four if you're the fifth spot or the sixth spot. So it's like the way they flattened it, it's really not as impactful as people are like really upset about it. It's just that like, Yeah, this is the worst. This is the worst possible Suns season.
And as good as the Nets probably could have been this year. And you kind of think about that other scenario where you have those Suns picks, you hold that team hostage. It would be great to hold Matt Ishbia hostage. Like, how much fun would that be? Um, so that's kind of like, that's a little bit of the stinging thing, but I still look at it.
This as like the nets are going to have four first round picks this year and just an insane amount of salary cap space. Uh, that's a better position than like, you know, just whatever morass that they were in for the past few years.
Nope. That's the negative of the team. I really want to stress this to people. Noah Clowney, okay, their first-round pick from, I guess, two years ago. I've heard, I think it was Ryan Russillo talk about this, where... the development now that they have in the NBA of like young players that they make shoot threes that shouldn't be shooting threes. Noah Clowney is the poster boy for that.
They're making him shoot like five threes a game. I know that's not actually his per game three point, but like there are many games where he goes one for six. He is the worst shooter in the NBA. Now he has a good like free throw percentage, which is why they're like, go shoot threes. You know, he's a six, nine athletic forward who was more of a post player in college and that they're like,
trying to become as a secondary post defender, you know, with the block and then come shoot threes on the other end of the floor, the visions there. He's just not like, he's not good. Um, Derek white had their other first round pick. Not good. He scored 17 points last night. Best game of his life as a net, but he's been a complete non-factor Keon Johnson, Trendon Watford, uh,
there's just not there's that's the problem there isn't that young exciting guy at all on this team we signed drew timmy timmy um yeah i if the dude was like yokich of the g league um and i think that's our prompt most promising young player already even though he's probably like 25 i think isn't he like old um Because he was in college for... He's 24. He's 24. Apologies. He'll be 24 years old.
So there just isn't... That's the problem. They're really starting from scratch going into this offseason where they have all the draft picks. They have their own draft pick, as you said, since 2010. They have all the free agency cap space. It's like... they really need a lot to rebuild the roster. The thing is they do have like some weird veterans, right? They still have Cam Johnson.
They still have Nick Claxton. So it's not like this team is starting from zero in terms of players, just from young players. They just don't have a dude at all.
The Nets hold the Bucks pick hostage this year. easy trade Giannis for their own first round. That's all they need back is the 18th pick in the draft. We hold the bucks hostage. I think the only way they do something big is if they get Cooper flag. Cause I do think if they get Cooper flag, the like, then it'll be, we got to, we're going to just boom, boom, boom, make moves.
