I suspect the creature we destroyed may have been sort of a tentpole for the rest of the supernatural events beleaguering the outpost.

Once he was disposed of, the rest of the phenomenon came crashing down.

At the very least, it deepens our understanding of the demon's machine.

What it does, or at least one of the things it does.

My knowledge of the forces involved is limited, but I believe I can make a reasonable assumption.

The machine appears to amplify certain infernal humors, strengthen them, expand their reach, perhaps even refine their effects.

In this case, the Man of Sin seems to have been used as a kind of transponder for the device, a living conduit through which its influence could be projected.

Rather than acting directly, the machine extended its power through him, increasing its range and perhaps even focusing it with greater precision.

I think that would be a fair extrapolation, yes.

Though, exactly how one quantifies evil as the thing that can be grown, I do not know.
