again it's like it's like life it's like a work in progress and I just I get it wrong all the time and then I'm like okay well I'm going to try and give my kids the emotional literacy for this situation and I'm going to talk to them about the fact that you know I'm just I'm feeling a bit grumpy right now and it's not because of them and I shouldn't have shouted and you know um they should feel you know fine about the way that they did it and that's not their fault and

And I've been doing that for a while and it seems to have helped them find the language as well to express themselves, which is really good because I don't pretend that I ever have it together.

Like I'm not one of those parents that pretends that I have all the answers or anything under control.

So I often am just a bit of a mess around them and I'll kind of just be open with them and tell them that and I'll be like, I'm sorry, I've just –

I, I have my period and women go through a thing in the lead up to their period where they are a bit grumpy and I shouldn't have spoken to you like that.

And I'm really sorry.

It's not your fault.

I love you.

And I hug them.

And, and so that I've found that doing all that makes them much more confident in like expressing themselves to me.

Cause they're not, they're not scared of, um, being imperfect cause they see that I'm, you know, imperfect.

And I think it also shows them that it's like, it's okay to lose your shit sometimes.

Like, you don't have to have it together all the time, too.

Like, you're allowed to be grumpy and say the wrong thing, and I'm not gonna hold it against you, you know, but you probably also should repair afterwards as well, like I do.

Yeah, it's funny because I've had such an unconventional career that I think a lot of my ADHD tendencies have been very much accommodated accidentally.

A lot of people in the creative music field are just always late to things.
