So when he actually originally enlisted in the Air Force in 1982, he would have been asked.
They would have said, are you a homosexual?
And presumably he said no, because he did serve for five years in the Air Force proper.

And I think it's interesting that you note, Matt, that he was not like a soldier.
He was not a pilot.
He was not a Marine.
He was what's called a JAG or Judge Advocate General, which is basically a lawyer within the military's own justice system.
So, you know, he had gone to law school by that point.
He enlisted at an officer level because he'd been in ROTC.
So he was never like a grunt or a private.
And he, you know, is basically a lawyer within the military justice system.
And he's like writes memos for, you know, much of his military career about stuff that it's legal for the military to do.
But by the late 80s,
He's not really doing it anymore.
He switches to the reserve, which is a much lower commitment.
It's not full time.
