I think that's what he's saying.
To respond to media, but to think that I wouldn't be advising the head of a small or large department to be directly responding because they speak on behalf of the thing, whether it's the state or the city.
And that's where they make mistakes.
That's what lawyers' jobs are and what media reps' jobs are.
But I'm not saying that media should not push.
Media absolutely should push.
I am saying that there needs to also be a respect for why there might be pushback.
And not in this particular case, but in any case where law enforcement has a separate, different function.
I can't really name any cases other than
missing person cases where there's day after day of updates on what is going on in an investigation.
I said other than missing person.
I said, usually in missing person cases and when there's an outcry, and it doesn't happen often enough for Black folks.
I mean, I started with that part, so I'm going to stick to it.
But when there is a, we are looking, here's where we're looking, here's what we need the public to do, because there's a time urgency there, and there can be a time urgency here also, but the urgency is in the investigation part.
And so...
To me, we need to push.
We need to understand law enforcement's role in our pushback.
We need to educate the public because that's part of what I do and think my role is in media to have an understanding of what's happening when it needs to happen.
Take our cues.
You know, if Ben is out there saying Leadbetter isn't being upfront with us, not giving us the information we need, then I share what Ben's saying because he's lead counsel.
