I was just recently writing my book and talking about
you know, President Obama's response to Michael Brown dying and he didn't go to St.
Louis and how that was so much pressure as a staffer because we carry the burden of being Black and then working for the first Black president with the expectation that he leans into his race at that point.
So that's going to be hard for Mr. Jeffries and some of these other leaders to deal with, which is how do you, you know, heal the nation and move the nation forward after whatever a verdict might be.
We were all thinking someone save him, right?
So I think what he's referring to is the Mississippi Crime Victims Bill of Rights.
It's a Code Section 9943.
I looked it up because...
I try to tell our folks, our Lemonheads, what they need to know.
And here's what it says, that within 72 hours, the victim or the family of a victim where there is a suspicious death or where there is a crime committed has the right to receive the incident report, but I think they're supposed to request it.
And they certainly have the right to whatever information is available and to actually at least get contacted
about what their rights are in the circumstance going forward.
What happened here though, Don, as we know, is that during the first period of 24 to 48 hours, there was a missing person and there was no assumption of a victim.
I think we are moving closer now because we have a death.
We have an unexplained death, unusual circumstances, death, where that would happen.
And that's why the district attorney did the meeting and met with the family and said, this is on me.
We should have been in contact sooner.
And Nolan Wells' mom, Ms.
Wansley, is such a gracious person.
