Probably around that age.

Probably like 16 or something like that.

So it's just that, ready to go.

yeah sure no I think whatever it is it's a teenager who knew exactly what they wanted to do and I think that's that was lucky it's not good it's not bad but it was lucky to have kind of it was lucky that I feel very lucky that I knew with a whole heart what I wanted to do I had the support around me to do it and I had just enough resources to do so so I really acknowledge all of that

I know I worked with somebody a while ago who was fervently against the Oscars.

He just thought they were such bullshit, which I think they are.

It's not quantifiable art.

And he would say it's a prize for getting a job, which is true.

And I do think any kind of competition around an art form of any kind

It's just got to be seen as just a bit of fun because how can they say that so-and-so is a better actor than so-and-so without identifying the budget constraints that they're working under versus them?

Has that person just lost a partner or has any of the contextual stuff changed?

You can't quantify it.

So I think it's just a bit of a Christmas party, really, and that's fine.

It's part of the ecosystem as well.

We all want to promote our films and our TV shows so that people watch them, and we're all just interpollinating, so that's fine.

I was so lucky.

I came straight out of drama school and went into the, working for the Silo Theatre in Auckland.

And they had an amazing show called The Ensemble Project, which was two shows working, one devised show and one directed show in Auckland.

working at the same time, so I worked with Michael Hurst on a show called Tis Pity She's a Whore, which is written in Shakespeare's era.
